Senior health care starts with prevention of the deterioration of the quality of life. More senior citizens in the United States are requiring senior living conditions geared to preserve adequate and senior safety life factors for years because people are living longer lives. When it is possible for seniors to remain in their homes these factors will provide residents with safe and comfortable surroundings for the sunset years.
Senior Safety Health Care:
1. Remove scatter rugs. These are risks for senior falls.
2. Work to make all rooms clutter free.
3. Place necessary senior health care needs close by. Reading glasses, medicines, cup of water, phone and tissues are items to consider.
4. Set hot water heater to 120 degrees to prevent senior burns.
5. Install grab bars in shower and toilet areas for senior citizens to use.
6. Put non slip decals in shower and tub areas.
7. Eliminate hanging bed linens.
8. Avoid sloppy fitting shoes.
9. Buy skid proof slippers.
10 Keep rooms well lit.
11 Monitor balanced meals with easy to chew foods.
12 Have emergency phone numbers handy, written in large print.
13 Make sure all smoke detectors are in current working status.
14 Plan a fire escape route and rehearse weekly. Incorporate instructions into senior daily activities so knowledge will be fresh.
15 Keep flammables at lease two feet away from stove and oven for senior safety.
16 Have proper fitting clothes that are easy on and off.
17 Provide medical alert emergency service even if senior is not living alone.
18 Inform local police if lack of memory is a problem with the senior. Give picture of the senior citizen if requested.
19 Make chair easy up and down with either thicker cushions or mechanical devices.
Daily exercise, depending on abilities of the senior, should be encouraged and preserved. Outings at Parks and Recreation areas add to senior quality of life when weather permits. Promote a hobby and enjoyable senior activities for good senior health of mind and body.
During the early retirement years, a senior can manage with "meals on wheels" progressing to home care nurses to assist with medicines, when memory fails them. It is when senior citizens can no longer manage the daily living tasks, that other health care decisions have to be implemented. Doctors suggest home health care aids who assist with bathing and other personal hygiene needs. These can preserve the quality of life since the home environment remains the residence.
Quite often it is a crisis fall that demands change from home to a senior health care facility. Then quickly follows a hospital stay, to assisted living or nursing home housing. When living at home does not seem possible, options are there for a family member to determine. A Life & Health Insurance policy that pays toward senior living places prompts the search toward finding retirement to end of life senior housing still maintaining quality of life for the senior.
